Pietragrande is located in the comune of Stalettì, Catanzaro. Part of the spectacular Gulf Of Squillace, Pietragrande has always been the holiday resort to the local elite. With a beautiful coastline the waters here are especially clear and the beaches go from pebbles to sand depending on personal preference.
Near to Copanello, Caminia and Soverato Pietragrande is central to a large choice of beaches, restaurants, bars, Lidos and various forms of entertainment. A new shopping centre in Montepaone, (5 minutes drive) has also opened recently giving extra amenities nearby. Watersports are available from Pietragrande and nearby Soverato and boat excursions to visit the coastline are available on a daily basis during summer months to explore the grottoes and bays.
Soverato is an important holiday area and port. During summer time the population increases greatly thanks to the large sandy beaches, good hotels and restaurants, pubs, camping sites and beach establishments. Very interesting to see is the monument of the mother Church that has marble statues of the Pietà and a 16th century Ecce Homo bas- relief done by Antonio Gagini. There is also a 16th century watch tower on the coast, known as the Charles V Tower. Soverato Alto has splendid views of the Gulf of Squillace. Splendid beach resorts in this area are also Caminia and Pietragrande. Caminia is a marvelous bay, fringed by a gorgeous beach, crowned with Mediterranean maquis, fascinating grottos such as San Gregorio and historical attractions such as the remains of the Vivariense Monastery founded by Cassiodoro The coast here presents fascinating stretches, where sandy beaches alternate with cliffs rising high above the sea. Pietragrande, dominated by its imposing cliffs, offers to the many tourists that visit it restaurants, pubs, night-clubs, holiday villages, shops, camping sites and beach establishments and mostof all its crystal waters perfect for snorkelling, fishing, windsurfing, canoeing etc.
